So my last post was about music and
singing to God well, guess what that was the exact same message given at church
yesterday! Worship and how important it is in everyday
life. My pastor said that worship is the
ice cream of the ice cream Sunday. Now I
don’t eat ice cream Sundays, I do however, eat the cookie monster at Cheddars
so my analogy will be the cookie monster J. For those of you unlucky souls who have not
had a cookie monster allow me to explain….a warm chocolate chip cookie (not
just any cookie, I’m talking a BIG ‘OL cookie) straight from the oven with 3
scoops of vanilla ice cream, fudge, caramel, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry
on top (thank goodness for the technology age of typing on a computer because
if I were writing you a letter the ink would be smeared from my drooling)….whew
all worked up now.
Anyway, most people, probably 90% of
people just kind of go through the motions when it comes to worshiping at
church, you may mumble, you may clap, or you may just stand that and read the
lyrics (such as my husband). Heck even
my pastor admitted he’s the type to just mumble a little. Now if you had read my last post you KNOW
that I DO NOT just stand there, I sing, I clap, and yes I cry. It is the most important part, it prepares
me, it opens my heart to listen and feel what the Lord has laid on my pastor’s
heart to preach to us that day. As he
went on about the sermon he said that worship is the foundation. Girls, it’s the cookie, it’s the best dang
part…it’s the warm, gooey, yumminess of the whole treat (man I need a wet vac
to get all this drool up)!! If it weren’t
for the cookie there’d be no cookie monster and if it weren’t for the worship your
heart may not be as open to hear God’s word.
Does that mean that your heart isn’t open at all? Of course not, but let’s please Him and open
our hearts 100%, breath in His word and let it pour out in song to praise Him. There were a few points made in our sermon that
I’d like to share with you:
·
Worship expresses gratitude to God I a
meaningful way to Him.
·
Worship recalibrates our warped perspective.
·
Worship connects our heart to God’s in an authentic
and deep way. It pleases Him, He
rejoices with us.
Each Sunday after my husband and I
hear the sermon we like to sit and talk about what we learned and what we are
walking away with that week. Well, this
sermon really spoke to him. He told me
he normally doesn’t sing but it isn’t because he doesn’t like to worship or
doesn’t enjoy that time it’s because he’s not a good singer. (isn’t that cute?). I told him God doesn’t care, to Him we all
sound beautiful especially when singing in unison and praising Him. I told him to picture when the kids were
younger and when they brought him a picture that they drew just for daddy. It was ugly, the coloring was out of the
lines, you couldn’t tell if it was a dog or a person, and the spelling was “I
lobe u daddy yur the bist” and remember how proud you were? How happy it made you feel that your child
worked so hard on this drawing, and that she/he did it just for you? That is EXACTLY how God feels. He doesn’t care if you’re on tune, if you
mess up the words, if you sing it too fast or too slow because you’re singing
it for Him. You are dedicating this song
to Him. You’re telling Him how wonderful
He is and He means so much to you that you’re taking the time to sing and rejoice
about it. Our God is an awesome God, He
forgives without thinking twice, He loves with no conditions and He doesn’t
play favorites (wow I feel like a bad parent now, don’t you? Lol). Carl said that from now on he will sing,
regardless of how bad he sounds because God wants to hear him and loves his
voice regardless if anyone around him doesn’t.
Something else on my heart:
Now let me say that I felt pretty
dang good about myself because I do sing and worship, I love this part of
church…however, let’s face it I’m not perfect (pretty close, like 99% perfect
but not quite 100%) hahahhhahahaha now isn’t that a funny joke? Me perfect?
Any of us perfect? Yeah, right! None of us are perfect and we shouldn’t
pretend to be. We should be authentic
and come as we are. Just because
Raynisia, myself and Reda (our prayer warrior) write these blogs and pray for
each and every one of you by no means makes us perfect. That ladies is what this blog is all
about. We don’t have a degree in God, we
don’t have our MBA in Perfect Christian Society of Texas, and we don’t claim to. Please know that we are just as messed up,
stressed out, crazy, and lost as all of you.
We wanted to put this blog together so that you feel like you are
hearing from normal everyday women who are trying to get through this very
hard, very tricky world that we live in and the only way we can do it is as a
team of Christian ladies, Team God! Life
is hard, heck we all know it, just turn to God.
Give it all to Him, only He can help.
Life is so inconsistent and hard it’s a crazy roller coaster with no
handles, but it does have a pretty fantastic safety net. No matter how inconsistent our life is know
that God is steady, He is the most consistent of them all and our lives should be
defined by Him and His consistencies not by our difficulties. Turn to Him always in the good and the bad. Psalms
73:28 reads But it is good for me to draw
near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy
works. Read that first part again it is good for me to draw near to God it’s
good to be near to God. To just know He
is there and He has a plan.
Now if some of you are reading
these blogs trying to figure out who these God and Jesus guys are and are not
Christians that’s ok too. Keep reading, keep
exploring, keep enjoying, and please, please ask questions. Again, we are by no means an expert on the
subject but we are all happy to share our stories and help you along the way as
much as we can. What we can’t do God
can. We are happy to share what is on
our heart everyday and hope you enjoy it.
We hope and pray this blog
reaches out to each and every one of you.
Be extraordinary.
Awesome post today Brandy! Our church is doing a series on the importance of worship! I agree when you say we are just as stressed, crazy and lost as everyone reading this. I pray everyone can take at least one thing from each blog. Even if its to share with someone else! :)
ReplyDeleteKeep singing Carl! The angels are your backup. You know, I know this girl who sang (proudly) in church at the top of her lungs. It wasn't pretty but I could feel God
